Spice Up Your Protein Waffles

I love keeping Kodiak Cakes Buttermilk Power Cakes Flapjack and Waffle Mix on hand. It can be used for many things (such as breading chicken), and it’s a great solution to cure a sweet tooth. I’ve made endless variations of pancakes and waffles using this mix, but I’d like to share some of the easiest ways to spice up your cakes!

First, let’s talk about the mix itself. It is made up of 100 percent whole grains, whey protein isolate, various protein concentrates, and it does not contain preservatives. Each serving consists of fourteen grams of protein. It is very simple to prepare. I usually just add water, however you can adjust the mix to fit your macronutrient goals. Some people choose to add oil, use milk, or add an egg. I usually use two servings at a time, so I mix one cup of mix with 3/4 cup of water.

The toppings are what make eating protein waffles fun for me! Lately, my favorite variation has been a PB&J waffle (pictured). I use frozen mixed berries to make a jam-like topping. To do this, I microwave about a cup of berries with sweetener to taste. I just eyeball the amount unless I’m on a serious cut. I usually microwave the berries for about 2-3 minutes, then I mash them together with the sweetener using a fork. To make the peanut butter drizzle, I either use real peanut butter or PB2 depending on my macro goals.

I like my waffles to be very sweet, so I also add sugar free maple syrup. My favorite brand to use is Maple Grove, as it tastes great and only adds five calories per two tablespoons. Another favorite topping of mine is Fat Free Reddi-wip, which also only adds five calories per two tablespoons. That’s it for the PB&J waffles!

There are so many ways to make premade mixes better. You can use a variety of toppings to help you meet your nutrient goals. I’ll be sharing more ideas with you seen, so keep checking back for more!
